Club Events

November 10, 2001 ~ ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY was a success.

We had a super turnout at the recent Adopt-A-Highway. Eleven club members enjoyed Bob Gould's delicious breakfast before cleaning up the litter along the Beeline Highway. In two hours we filled approximately 70 bags of trash, with the normal array of items, such as cans, bottles, diapers, tire treads, and, of course, five $10.00 gift certificates hidden by Carlos Ramirez. We all had a super time and performed a great community service!

January 12, 2002 ~ Peralta Trail Hike  -  is now history.

The weather was super, for the hike on Peralta Trail to Freemont Saddle.  Club members and guest totaled 14.  We have a picture of everyone before the hike, a picture of Freemont Saddle, and a great view of Weavers Needle.  Lunch was provided by the club, and was prepared by Carlos and Linda Ramirez.  Thanks to the entire outings committee for a great hike.

February 9, 2002 ~ Wildlife Habitat Project - Tonto National Forest

Another great success

Cleaning and resealing the blacktop surface of the rainwater collecting apron for a wildlife drinker.  We will be repairing the apron for an underground tank which supplies wildlife with much needed drinking water during dry periods.  We will meet at 8:30 sharp and be finished by 3-4:00 P.M.  Lunch will be supplied by the club and the AWF.

We will meet at the Tonto National Forest Cave Creek Headquarters, at Cave Creek Road & Bartlett Lake Road, (at the gate on the Cave Creek Road side) at 8:30 AM.

March 16, 2002 ~ Picacho Peak - Was fun had by all

Club hike and BBQ.  This is a fun outing and should be timed to catch all of the spring wildflowers.  Hikes of varying lengths and difficulty OR just come and enjoy the colors.

May 3-5, 2002 ~ BLACK RIVER TRIP

The SSC’s recent outing to the Black River was a resounding success!  Despite being a bit cold at night and a bit warm during the daytime, we had a super time and caught our fair share of fish.  13 members and friends participated at various times during the long weekend.  We drove to Tick Flats on the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation and then “backpacked” about ½ mile upstream and set up base camp.  From there we fished up and downstream, catching mostly small smallmouth bass, as well as some catfish.  Saturday evening we filleted about 20 bass and had a fish fry both nights.  Most of the smaller fish were released back into the river.  All in all a rough estimate would be that we caught and mostly released well over 100 fish!  Steve Hancock received the honors of catching the largest fish.  What a great time!
