AzTec Newsletter/February 2010
2009 was not a good year for AzTeC. We were not alone...it was a rough year all around.
Our host, EMR, since 2003 when AzTeC transitioned from ASU, was caught up in the economic
slow-down and had to abandon the ISP business altogether. This finally
brought to a close our dial-up connection in late 2009. Diligent searches for alternative
pathways to AzTeC via dial-up were unsuccessful largely due to cut-backs in the
private sector who matched their capacity to needs leaving little or no excess for our
use. We continue to look for ways to bring back dial-up service but for now we must
be content with web presence.
AzTeC will continue the web presence, e-mail, hosting activities and with your help,
add appropriate features to OBA (Our Beloved AzTeC). Your suggestions are encouraged and
valued. Our web address is: www.aztecfreenet.org and you can telnet
into the familiar AzTeC via the web for mail. Be aware that the newer O/S ( Win XP, Vista Win 7)
have disabled the telnet client. If you have questions about forwarding
your mail or suggestions for dial-up service to the web please call the Help Line (602 468 9765)
leave a message for a volunteer to return your call.
Again, we want to thank everyone who had a hand in the free service that AzTeC provided to the community
for the past 14 years. AzTeC is one of the few freenets that survive in this country...we hope to continue and
with your interest it will.
