Ardis began playing the piano as a young child and started alto-sax in elementary school, continuing until 1953 through high school. She then picked it up again in 1988 until 1995 when she began to play the flute. The composer William H. Hill wrote Portraits for Soprano Saxophone and Wind Ensemble which was an aural impression of the visual realization of five of Ardis' paintings. Ardis performed this as soloist with the Grand Canyon University Wind Ensemble in 1995. She joined DFNHB when it started in 1995.
