(M,1,2) AzTeC Acceptable Use Policy It is the policy of AzTeC to provide for its members access to local, national and international sources of information and to provide an atmosphere that encourages access to knowledge and the sharing of information. The basis of this policy is not censorship but prevention of harm to AzTeC through sensible, thoughtful avoidance of irrelevant, illegal, inappropriate and/or harassing use of AzTeC resources. AzTeC cannot take responsibility for what other institutions and persons provide on the InterNet. Therefore, AzTeC neither censors nor approves what is made available by these connections, but it will refer to the proper authorities persons who appear to have violated AzTeC policy. It is the policy of AzTeC that information resources will be used by members with respect for the public trust through which they have been provided. AzTeC encourages creative and collaborative exchanges in a manner free from fear that products of intellectual efforts will be violated by misrepresentation, tampering, destruction and/or theft. Every user of AzTeC accepts responsibility to protect the rights of persons from and with whom information is shared. Parents of minor children are responsible for supervising their children's use of AzTeC resources. Anyone who misuses, destroys, alters, dismantles or disfigures AzTeC information technologies, properties or facilities has engaged in unethical and unacceptable conduct and is subject to loss of AzTeC use privileges and/or other sanctions. AzTeC views seriously the standards relevant to potentially offensive materials on a Free-Net. History shows clearly that thought and creativity do not flourish in an intensively policed environment. The fundamental issues are responsible, effective use of AzTeC, and while private preferences and behavior are not determinants of proper use, laws and AzTeC policy are. Prohibitions include, but are not limited to: 1. use of AzTeC resources for business or commercial purposes 2. criminal activity as defined by state and federal statutes 3. harassment 4. illegal, abusive or wasteful use of AzTeC resources 5. SPAM AzTeC technical support personnel, board members and the general membership are responsible for maintaining, adhering to and administering this policy. Anyone who believes the Free-Net is being misused or that a member is not adhering to the policy is encouraged to report such alleged misuse to the president of the Board of Directors or his/her designee. The president and technical support staff shall, in concert, determine what steps shall be taken to investigate the alleged misuse. Differences of opinion shall be resolved by the president or, if considered necessary, by the board of directors meeting in regular or special session. If it is determined that a misuse of AzTeC has occurred which was not illegal, the president may issue a warning or reprimand or may order the loss of AzTeC use by the offender. If it is determined that the misuse was possibly illegal, the president shall cause a report to be made to the appropriate authorities. If AzTeC operating staff personnel determine the integrity of AzTeC is compromised by known or unknown persons , staff shall take appropriate immediate and temporary steps to protect the security of the AzTeC server until such time as the AzTeC president and technical staff can be contacted for a decision about a more permanent remedy. AzTeC reserves the right to amend this policy at any time.
