AzTeC Free-Net Newsletter - August 2003
Hello again AzTeC Users !
Looks like we hardy desert dwellers have survived the hottest July on
record. AzTeC has survived too and we have been busy adding new features
and taking care of business. We continue to add new POP3 mail users and
have added a local chat feature, soon to be extended to a full blown IRC
client. A couple of interactive games were added to test the waters but
more could be added if we could find them. :) We're looking for telnet
interactive games that don't require involved registrations. Let us know
if any are available or if there is any interest. Web mail is almost
ready to go and there seems to be a lot of activity on Usenet. Two of
our members have offered to host a senior sig and we encourage others
to add some special interest groups too. It is not anymore challenging
to host a sig than it is to use email. Look on the main menu under
"About Sigs" for more details. Some years ago the sigs were very active
and we hope others will help make this happen again. Sigs help you to get
to know the people on AzTeC and give a feeling of community which is what
we are all about. In that same spirit we are still working on a public
meeting for the fall.
We are still looking for people wise in the ways of publicity and funding.
We also are considering ways to expand to some communities who currently
are not connected to us. For people with children or those who do not
appreciate tons of spam, pop up ads etc AzTeC offers a viable choice. Soon
we will have a voting node where we hope you will get involved. From time
to time we will ask you what you want from our community server and hope
you will respond with your ideas. We will also be redoing the old brochures
to reflect the new services with plans to get them out into the community.
If you can help with that, contact rwertz on AzTeC.
Thank you to those who wrote and offered to help with various tasks. Also
thanks to the generosity of our donors. It has enabled us to purchase some
needed hardware etc. while conserving our principle of offering absolutely
free access to the Internet. It was a rough month with the loss of a hard
drive, some glitches at our host but a big thanks to Ivan for working
through it. And to paraphrase the US Postal Service slogan:
"Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays".. AzTeC
from getting the mail out. :) Spread the word.
Enjoy the end of summer and carry an umbrella!
